Bassoon
Bassoons are the unsung heroes of the orchestra, responsible for so much of the colour of the inner parts of classical music.
The modern bassoon, a double-reed conical bore instrument like the oboe, is a descendant of the mediaeval shawm.
- Checkover - for new and recently overhauled instruments, this involves checking for air-tightness and articulations

- Service - the instrument will be stripped and cleaned, all pads and toneholes will be inspected . Toneholes are dressed as required, pads are replaced and proofed as required. The bore of the instrument is oiled, rotten toneholes can be replaced or treated and wear to the keywork rectified. Push-rod holes are lined and the instrument is re-assembled and regulated throughout. Tenon corks and touch corks are replaced as necessary.

- Repad - this includes a full service (see above) but also includes the replacement of all pads, with the highest quality premium deluxe pads.
£250 - £300
- Thorough overhaul - the instrument will be stripped and cleaned, all pads and toneholes will be inspected . Toneholes are dressed as required. The bore of the instrument is oiled, rotten toneholes can be replaced or treated and wear to the keywork rectified. Push-rod holes are lined. All pads, tenon corks and touch corks are replaced.
Cosmetic wear, replating of keywork (full or partial), keywork alterations can be done during a thorough overhaul

- Tuning work - once the instrument has been restored to good playing condition adjustments to tuning of problem notes can be made

Contra-bassoons are welcome too! Transport raises more of a challenge, but servicing and repairs and tuning work are all undertaken.
